Brew Fresh Hard Cider in your Kitchen
Meet the Alchema
The Alchema is smart at brewing, so you don’t have to be.
OK, when we talk about cider the correct verb to use is ‘ferment’. You brew your beer, but you ferment your cider. Fermenting cider is more similar to making wine than brewing beer.
When it comes to alcoholic beverages, I specialize in consumption–so I be use ‘brew’ and ‘ferment’ interchangeably.
And traditional cider making is daunting, messy and hands on.
Your equipment needs to be sanitized, because it doesn’t take much to spoil your cider batch. More on that later.
Not with the Alchema.
It takes all the guesswork out of the fermentation process using built in sensors measuring weight, temperature, atmospheric pressure and alcoholic content. All you have to do is add the fruit, sugar and yeast, and let the Alchema do all the heavy lifting.
The Alchema app lets you know once your cider is brewed and ready for refrigeration.
It makes the process easy, dummyproof and fun.
Step One: The Hard Part of Brewing your Cider
I love all kinds of flavors profiles. Sweet and bubbly peach ale, dry and crisp strawberry-pear wine, warm and spicy apple-cinnamon-ginger cider. It’s all delicious to me. Problem is the Alchema app already has dozens of user-uploaded recipes with more recipes added every day. These recipes span such such huge range of flavors and fruit that it took me three days before settling on a classic hard apple cider as my first test run. Do you want high alcoholic content? Extra fruity? full bodied? There’s a recipe for that in the app.
You’ll be a cider connoisseur within a few months’ time. You’ll learn all about the factors that affect the flavor of the brew and how you measure and quantify those variables. Of course, since the Alchema has all the sensors built right in, it’s virtually dummy-proof. You simply can’t screw up the recipe.
Now that I’ve made a few batches, I’m ready to start experimenting with my own recipes and share the best ones with you guys on the app.
And you’re not even limited to hard cider.
Beer, mead and even sake are all part of what you can create. Willy Wonka would be impressed with the vast variety of flavorful liquors you can create.
Apple-Ginger. Pear-Honey. Strawberry-Pear. Peach-Ginger Tea. Tart Raspberry. Bitter Orange. Fig-Apple-Bayleaf. Honey-Mead.
Almost anything you can dream up is possible. And it’s all natural ingredients.
No artificial flavors or colors. Fruit, yeast and sugar. Mother nature takes care of the rest, and the Alchema monitors the entire process for you.
Step Two: Adding Fruit for Fermentation
So once you do decide on which recipe you want to taste, the app shows you step by step how much of each ingredient to add. The Alchema’s built in scale tell you once you’ve added enough fruit, yeast and sugar. Remember these sensors are what makes the Alchema’s method of fermentation and cider brewing so much simpler than the traditional methods. Your trial and error will never result in a total disaster. The worst case scenario is that your batch is sweeter than you wanted, or less alcoholic than you’d hoped. Then you learn how to adjust for your next batch.
Oh, and if you do have your own experience with brewing beer or alcohol at home, you’ll know how important it is to keep your equipment sanitized so the batch doesn’t spoil. No problem for the Alchema! A built in UV light keeps your pitcher sterilized without any mess or hassle.
Step Three: Waiting for your Brew (the other hard part)
OK, this is really the hardest part of brewing your own cider. You’ve selected your tantalizing recipe for your next boozy concoction. You’ve added everything into the fermentation pitcher. And now…we wait. Depending on your recipe and other environmental conditions, your batch can take up to a week or more to finish fermenting.
The good news is, you can check your app every day to monitor the progress. It tells you just what’s going on inside the pitcher like the alcoholic content and the atmospheric pressure.
And you’ll even be notified once your batch is ready for refrigeration. Easy (as soon as the wait is over).
Step Four: Serve and Enjoy
Each batch yields up to 81 ounces of cider. That’s 3 wine bottles’ worth of your own custom batch of alcohol! High quality fruit cider can run you AT LEAST $10 per bottle. $30 of value per each batch means that the Alchema will pay for itself after about 10 batches.
If you need more on hand, you can transfer the cider into a mason jar or swing-top bottle to store it in the refrigerator while you work on your next batch of brewed deliciousness.
Having company? You won’t find a better conversation starting ice-breaker than your fresh batch of homemade cider.
As always with DAK, you get 30 days to make sure you’re thrilled with the Alchema, and you’re covered under a full year warranty for any manufacturer defects.
It’s time you upped your bartending skills and added that WOW factor to your hosting game.
