Real Time, Timed & Scheduled Recording Systems

On this page are 2, actually 3 Real Time Recorders. What's a real time recorder?
Aren't you supposed to record using the DAK Wave Editor? We'll yes and no.
Real time recorders operate very differently from the DAK wave editor because
they record directly to your hard drive as they record. The Wave Editor writes
to RAM and only to the hard drive as a temp file, when you've used your available
RAM up. So, unless you actually go to File/Save as with the editor, no permanent
file is ever made.
With these Real Time, no temp file recorders you can record much longer and therefore
bigger files. For example, a 2 hour Wav file in the editor would put 1.2 Gigs
in RAM, while a 2 hour direct record just drops the 1.2 Gig (or 120 MGB for MP3)
on your hard drive. So with these recorders you truly can record for as long as
you have hard drive space. Except that even with these, Windows can get temperamental
at about 2.4 Gigs and for sure around 4 Gigs.
That said if you are recording MP3 you can record for a very long time. Where
if you are trying to record with the editor, even though you are recording to
save as MP3, any file that's actually open in the editor is a Wav file and will
take up 600 megs per hour.
And while you can't open the bigger files in the editor, you can stream them and
listen to them. And for timed and scheduled recordings, the files are actually
saved and not left open so that's a big advantage too.
So for normal recording of up to an hour or so, use the editor. But for timed
recording, that's longer than an hour and for most scheduled recording, use the
Real Time Schedule Advanced recorder.
OK let's explore your new recorders.
Recorder One and Two - Direct Real Time Recorder. Recorder ONE, use for
manual direct to hard drive recording with no temp files. Recorder TWO gives you
up to 5 hours of count down recording. You start it manually and it will stop
on its own and save your file at the predetermined number of minutes you've chosen
for it to record.
Recorder Three - This is the advanced or Scheduled Record. Set it for any
day or time to start and any day or time to stop. Note, the computer must be on
the entire time this recorder is activated. However, it can be minimized.
Important Note: You can access two identical recorders to these by clicking
the Clock Button on the Main Editor. But those recorders, while they look the
same, use the editor to record. So they are limited, as to how long they will
record, by your RAM and RAM Disc. But for normal recording of one side of a record
or cassette they are preferred as you can then just edit and separate tracks in
the editor without ever reloading.
Important Recording Note: These recorders record whatever is coming into
your computer when you choose that sound as your source to record. So if it's
Internet Radio, Satellite Radio, Cable TV digital music or recording a conference,
always be sure it's actively playing at the time you have set these recorders
to record. And always remember to make a short test recording to be sure that
you are recording what you want to record.
