It can cause what's called
a ground loop. And it's caused by the different EMI potential between two or more
relative grounds.
Anyway, two or more grounds
is what you've got. You have a massive 300-watt or so power supply in your PC
that's meant to power hard drives, USB hubs, video cards and more.
It has its own solid ground
or you'd likely blow memory chips and lose data. Not a good thing to connect
directly to your stereo system.

up modem, DSL line or Cable modem to your computer. Each of these external
sources has its own independent (external to your home) and competing ground.

So What's A Ground Loop
And Why Do
You Care?

Stereo systems
and computers each use multiple power cables that ultimately lead back to your
circuit breaker panel.
As you know, at your panel, 220 volts AC is split into two 110-volt legs with
one common ground. Unfortunately, in many homes, there can be differences in
potential from ground to ground at your outlets.
And it's this difference that causes what's called a ground loop, which
can cause hum, buzz, signal distortion and system abnormalities.
Plus, (and this is often the
worst), when you connect a dial up phone line, a DSL line or a cable modem to
your computer (all of which have grounds external to your home that you can't
control) and then connect your computer to your stereo system, a ground loop can
develop.

her music to be played on a Memory Stick and my job was to fill the dance hall.

A ground loop exists
when the two or more grounds have a slight potential difference between them.
This will produce a voltage
drop where they meet, which also can cause electrical anomalies such as hum or
buzz, signal breakup and erratic system performance.
How Do You Break the Loop?
The one sure way to eliminate
any possibility of this occurring is to break the loop. By breaking the ground
loop, the voltage difference developed across the line will be eliminated, thereby
preventing the possibility of any type of damaging electrical side effects.
You can break the loop by eliminating
external grounds. 1) Unplug all cable and phone line connections. This
eliminates the external grounds over which you have no control.
And 2) Trace the AC power
to all components (anything with a separate power cord) and run a truly equal
common ground that they all share.
Note: One ground isn't necessarily better than another. It just that each
can have a different potential. And that's what causes the problem.
Or, and here comes the sales pitch, you can
use a Precision True Isolation Transformer for each channel. Each must be a low
distortion, linear, extended bandwidth transformer.
And they must be completely isolated from each other so that there's no possible
grounding connection between your PC and your Stereo.

All You Need To Do Is Plug It In.
This is a Schematic of the DAK's Interface so that you'll understand exactly
what it does and how it works. Of course all you have to do is plug it in.
It does the rest for you automatically.

Arrow 1. This is the Plug that you plug into your sound card.
The end (tip) is the left channel hot, the center band (ring) is the right channel
hot. The Sleeve is the common ground from your sound card. And this will be broken
at the transformers.
Arrow 2. Now we're getting to the important
parts. 2, 3 and 4 are actually all parts of the precision low noise matched transformers.
First, 2 is the 4-32 ohm input side. Do you see how it has fewer coils/turns?
That's so that when we get to 3 on the other side with more turns you'll see that
the impedance is stepped up.
Arrow 3. This is the HZ side at 47,000
ohms. A transformer works much like an electrical generator. A current passes
through the coils and it's transferred onto the other side. Nothing touches and
therefore the ground loop doesn't pass between sides of the transformer. You could
have a transformer like this that didn't correct the impedance and it would work
just fine for stopping the ground loop. But we're fixing both problems here. Also,
there are different qualities and noise levels and this is a superb low noise
example, but you can't see that, you'll just hear it. Anyway it all has to do
with the precision of the wind and the materials used.
Arrow 4. This
is the center of the transformer. Note that to make the picture easier to understand
I moved down to the left channel, but both right and left channels are identical
and the are also both totally isolated from each other. No ground potential passes.
Arrows 5/6. These are the RCA Jacks that plug into the Left and Right
Channels of your stereo system or home theater system. There's nothing special
about them. They're just standard RCA plugs. Oh, and they also plug into the 10'
special extension cable that we've included with the interface so that you have
16 feet of cable to run between your computer and your stereo system. You can
also add 2 more 10 foot cables without suffering signal loss. You can get those

cart. Just add one or two if you need them.

You
Don't Need To Do This.
I Just Wanted You To See
Here's my VOM (Volt Ohm Meter). What I'm testing here is to see if there is any
connection between the ground on the 3.5mm jack which connects to your sound card
and the RCA jack which you connect to your stereo.
Arrow 1.) As
you can see the meter reads 0. There is absolutely no electrical connection at
all. So, you are protected.
Arrow 2.) This is the Ground on the
RCA plug.
Arrow 3.) This is the ground on the 3.5mm plug.
Like I said, you certainly don't need to do this test. But if you have a VOM,
feel free to check to see that there is no common ground between the 3.5mm Plug
that plugs into your computer and the 2 RCA Plugs that plug into your stereo.
The precision isolation transformers protect you and your sound.

All You Need To Do Is Plug It In.
OK, this drawing is really straight forward. It just shows

Plug the Interface into the sound card exactly as your speakers were plugged in

Question One. Can I
Copy All These Great Tracks And Build My Collection?
Answer. Yes you easily can copy streaming audio by using the Wave &

supports Stereo Mix, Wave Out or What U Hear, you can record live from the Internet
Most Sound cards do support this type of recording.
But, before you do, check to be sure that you are allowed to make copies of
