Apartments
and condos are obviously out. And so are town homes. But,
if you have a 20' or more driveway, a detached garage in the back or a ranch or
farm, you're going to love knowing when a vehicle arrives
on your property
LONG RANGE CAR DETECTION.
Yes, it senses cars, trucks
and vans. And, you wont' be disturbed by an errant stray dog or cat setting off
the alarm. Or where I live, it's deer and coyotes.
You don't have to worry, because
they're not made of metal. It's just metal cars. So, your long-range car driveway
sensor is just that. It's a car sensor.
How
long range is it? Really far. Once you've set up the sensor, you can
securely transmit up to 500' from its included mounting pole that you just push
into the ground, or up to 1,000' if you mount the unit about 3 to 5 feet high
on a wall or tree (2 screws included).

The Outdoor Metglass Magnetometer
itself has 3 sensitivity settings. You can select 7, 10 or 15 feet. And remember,
it's immune to false alarms from wild or domestic animals and people.
REALLY EASY SETUP
First, the Outside Metglass
Magnetometer. This is incredibly easy and fast to setup. Just pop in 2 D cell
batteries (not included) into the weatherproof case, stick it on its pole by your
driveway and you're done outside.
Then in rain, sleet, snow
or sunshine, you'll be ready to spot intruders, friends and deliveries.
The Inside Receiver.
In the house you get a small 3-1/2" blue & White receiver (plus antenna)
that tells you when a car enters on your property.
It's AC Powered (adapter included).
There's a green light to show it's on. When a car passes
its magnetometer sensor, you'll get a doorbell like ding and the green monitor
light will change to a red flashing light that will continue to flash
for about 15 minutes before it resets.
What's A Magnetometer Anyway?
OK, so there are magnetic flux
waves all around us. In fact, way above us, the magnetosphere envelopes the earth,
extending from about one hundred to several thousand kilometers above the surface,
in which charged particles are trapped and their behavior is dominated by the
earth's magnetic field. The magnetic flux lines are really powerful.
Anyway, a magnetometer is
simply an instrument that measures the strength (and direction) of a magnetic
field. Magnetometers are used to measure variations in the earth's magnetic field
for many reasons, including locating mineral deposits, buried treasure, submerged
objects such as shipwrecks and now cars in your driveway.
The
earth's magnetic flux lines are distorted when a large metal object like a car
passes through them. (There's even enough metal in my plastic Corvette
to distort the flux lines.)
This happens continually as
you drive down the highway, and luckily for us, happens as anyone drives down
your driveway.
So, what does all this mean?
The Magnetometer in the Driveway Monitor registers the momentary distortion in
the earth's magnetic field caused by a car, truck or large metal object and informs
you that you have a visitor.
And, aside from huge magnetic
storms from the sun (or an occasional lightning storm), you should be just about
immune from false alarms, unlike outdoor PIRs. |
But
don't worry there's not a 15 minute void in your protection. The unit
will be ready to ding again as soon as the magnetic flux returns to normal. (no
distortion).
Normally in just about 15
seconds you're ready to sense your next friend, delivery or intruder.

Drew's Quick Take Review
At a Glance:
Description
This is a magnetometer based Driveway Monitor that lets you know if someone had
driven a car or truck down your driveway so you aren't unpleasantly surprised
when someone rings your bell or breaks in.
Pros:
Magnetometers don't false like PIRs.
You don't have to aim it perfectly. It's not a beam but a broad 'lobe.'
It installs in minutes. There's no complex setup.
Up to 1000' range from the magnetometer to the inside receiver.
Both Chime and flashing light alert.
Cons:
Won't connect to your existing alarm system.
Won't turn on lamps or other devices.
Quick Conclusion: Or Why This Product
If you've got a driveway that's over 20' that people use to visit, deliver, or
access other parts of your property, you can simply stick this magnetometer in
the ground or mount it to a wall or big tree and be protected and informed when
any vehicle comes onto your driveway. Just place it and forget it for a full year.
It's on the job.
