Here's What It Is

It's just about 7.5 ounces with batteries. It's so small and light that you'll take it with you everywhere you go. You can hold it in your hand or wear it on your belt or drop it into a pocket or purse. It really does fit.
It has the eVox voice activation circuit. It has 2 now 5 VOX sensitively levels. that works with BOTH the handset (no headset needed), OR with the optional headset/mikes.

The Truth About Range.

Will these really go 36 miles? Well over water or over desert yes. In the city, they will go less. With the new full 5-watt output and tuned receivers these go farther than ever before. But in my humble opinion, you'll never see 36 miles in the type of use you're likely to experience.

Of course if you're on a mountain top conferring with the Oracle of Delphi and want to pass the wisdom on to another oracle on another mountaintop, or if you're in the crow's nest of the Pinta or the Nina and you want to let Columbus on the Santa Maria know that you've found America, then you might get the full 36 mile range. The range on these really is remarkable, 36 miles or not.

So, if you're riding a motorcycle or breathing hard while you jog, ski or chase wild game, you can use the eVox with EITHER the handset or the optional Headphone Mikes.
If you're hunting or fishing and you can't talk much over a whisper, just override the eVOX by touching the Push To Talk Button. This is a really great feature when you want to whisper very quietly below the eVox threshold.

It fits In My Hand. If you're hunting or skiing, these are serious communication devices. If you're caravanning with 2 or more cars, the new 5 watt 18 now 36-mile range blows away FRS radios.

And frankly it's just nice to discuss which movies we've seen while my wife's at the video store and I'm at home.

Plus Now, you get a built-in weather alert radio. These GMRS 2-ways really are great.

The easy in the dark raised buttons make it all easy. Here you can see the the PTT Push to Talk button to the left so you can use manual talk when you aren't using the great Hands Free VOX feature that works BOTH with the optional Microphone/headsets or just with the handset too.

To the right is where you plug in the optional headsets. Not all GMRS and FRS Radios have this option. Ours do.

Or use the New Vibrate Call Alarm to know when you have an incoming message.

Just added. Hold the Menu Button for 3 seconds and you'll get all 11 NOAA Weather Band stations for up to the minute U.S. Government Weather forecasts and Emergency Alerts.

Note: Being able to talk hands free without the headset mike can be a real advantage.

In addition to the 3 now 5 level eVOX Voice Operated Circuit, you'll have 'PTT' which means Push to Talk. When you want to talk you just push the PTT button.

And if you're into surveillance or photographing wild life. When you can only whisper, you'll especially appreciate the super quiet FM modulated reception and static free transmission.
BUT There's More. With 22 now 42 Channels, do you have to scroll through all 22 now 42 to get to the Channel you want to use? No, just select your primary channel and every time you turn your Think Speak on, it will power up on your chosen Channel.

What's going on around you? Just touch Scan. It's a scanner too. It automatically scans all 22 now 42 channels for you. Just set it on scan to see who's 'on-line.' It automatically stops when it finds a 'live' transmission. It really is totally automated.

Roger Beep Anyone? Just select the Roger Beep, and every time you release the PTT button you'll send a short tone to tell your listener(s) that you're through. And that's a nice feature I really like.

And, a Useless Feature? OK, you get 142 Privacy Interference codes. When you broadcast and receive you'll only hear the codes that you've selected.

Most people think that they are privacy codes, but the truth is that everyone can hear you, but you'll only hear your own 'group.' Plus, if someone else is on your channel, you still can't use it even though you can't hear them. So you don't hear anyone else, but they can hear you. I just don't use the Privacy Codes. Maybe you will?

Just added. 5 levels of VOX. That's the voice operated sensitivity. So now you can set it to respond at just the automatic level you need. Forget 2 and 3 levels. 5 different Voice Sensitivity is by far the best.

Oh and this is really important. I use the channels 23-42 and I've yet to run into anyone even here in Los Angeles. In a city as big as LA, I think it's great to be able to avoid the busy FRS channels.

A Few More Specifics
Check These Out

You can expect long battery life from 4AA batteries. Plus, you can set it to high or low power. Very impressive. But now we're Including the rechargeable battery packs and recharging cradle. So you'll never need to buy batteries at all.

The system operates on the 460MHz band. It has 22 now 42 channels 7 which it shares with FRS and 15, which are pure GMRS.

And there are many more professional features to help you communicate anywhere, anytime.

There's a Backlit LCD display for in the dark viewing. Use the Removable Belt clip for go anywhere convenience. And, push 'Key Lock' to freeze all your settings.

This is great when you put it in your pocket or purse so it stays set the way you want it. The transmission output is a full RF 5 watts @ 6VDC (4 AA batteries)

Add a headphone (optional) for totally hands free private use. The boom mike headset is great for cars, bikes, motorcycles and skiing. When you want your hands totally free for other things, use the headphone. It's great. And it's very private.

Here's Where It Gets Really Good

You can talk to 1 or 10 or even 100 people with Think Speaks. There's no limit. So for ski patrols, hiking groups, or hunting parties, everyone can be connected up to a full 18 now 36 miles because of its new full 5 watts of power.

Plus you can broadcast to anyone with a regular FRS, but they'll only be able to receive and transmit back to on their limited 7 FRS channels and only from up to 2 miles away. Poor folks.

It fits in my hand. Yet it keeps me in touch like no other communications device I've ever used. We live in the hills where my cell phone doesn't work. (Yes we moved into this house before cell phones) It's very frustrating. Now I've got great reception and great communication any time anywhere. Plus at the mall, when we are riding our bikes, or when we caravan up to San Francisco to see my son and his wife, we can talk.
