A Thousand Words
It's true. A picture really can be worth a thousand words. And it's especially true with technology. As you look below, I hope that you'll see the parts, angles and buttons clearly so that you'll have a 100% clear understanding of just what this product can do for you. Products don't get reviewed unless I think they're good. I hope my pictures help you determine if you agree or not. . . Drew

Think mountains. Think golf. Go river rafting or Kayaking. This Two-Way radio longs to go. Outside inside all around. Here we are looking down at the golf course. Think of your kids. If they're like mine, they're gone. But how often could they get 5 miles away. Now they're just a call tone away from saying, "I'm fine mom". And if they're not, they're in constant contact with you anytime anywhere in the mountains, in the mall or snowboarding way out of sight. Now you're never out of touch up to an amazing 5 miles away.

It's smaller than my hand. Yet it keeps me in touch like no other communications device I've ever used. We live in the hills where my cell phone doesn't work Now I've got great reception and great communication any time anywhere. Plus at the mall, when we are riding our bikes, or when we caravan up to San Francisco for my son's wedding, we could talk. Again, on I5, we had no cell phone reception, but we sure did have GMRS reception.

The weather resistant easy in the dark raised buttons make it all easy. Here you can see the Call button to send a ring tone to alert your partner or all partners that you want to talk or relay information, the PTT Push to Talk button so you can use manual talk when you aren't using the great Hands Free feature and finally the Monitor and Lock Button so you can monitor long range communications manually (or use any of the 3 automatic scanning modes) or lock all the keys to freeze your preferences if you put this in your pocket, purse or glove box.

You'll see it all on the large LCD display. Plus, touch a button and it's backlit for total in the dark viewing. You'll see if you have it set for tone or silent Vibrate alerts, what channel your own and much more.

This is really neat so I clicked a picture for you. You can use EITHER 3 AA batteries or 4 AAA batteries. Why you ask. Well two reasons. 3 AA batteries give you 1 watt of power (still double any FRS radio) and last an amazing 45 hours. 4AAA batteries give you the full 2 Watt 5-mile range and last a full 15 hours. Plus reason two is that you can pop in whatever batteries you have available. How many times have you needed batteries and just had the wrong ones. Well, no more. Now it's easy.

Here's the optional headset. It plugs in instantly and turns off the INTERNAL speaker and microphone for totally silent use. This GMRS is hands free even without the headset because they included both the mike and speaker in the unit. But the headset really gives you totally hands free operation so you don't have to touch or hold anything. And oh wait till you hear the sound.

NOTE: After you order your Think Speaks, you'll be on what we call the shopping cart page. Just below the cart, you'll see Buy Buttons for both the optional headset and optional mobile antenna. The headset is just $19 ($2 P&H) Order No. 2011

Here's the optional magnetic base GMRS Antenna. It's just 6" tall and comes with about a 14' thin black cord which plugs into the Think Speak. I mentioned that I was going to try it on my car, but I drive a Corvette and it's all Fiberglass. It mounted (just a padded magnetic base) instantly to the top of my wife's car and should mount to just about any other car, camper, van, mobile home, boat or you name it, instantly.
I was also going to try it on the roof of my house, but frankly the range is so good, that I never lost contact with my wife or my kids.
But if you find that 5 miles isn't enough, this should add from 20% to 75% more range which should improve a transmission at 5 miles to from 5.8 to 8.75 miles. Wow, that's a long, long way.

A Quick NOTE About My Pictures.
Some of the pictures aren't as sharp as I'd put in the print catalog. You see I have to cut back their files sizes or this page would never load (especially if you're on a dial up modem).
The technical side is that I'm shooting JPEGs at 80-100 percent quality and I cut them back to 50-60% and pretty much limit them to 600 pixels in width or less so that they'll fit on your monitor and load reasonably fast. In short, each picture is about 450,000 bytes when I shoot it and 20-40,000 bytes here on the page. A picture for the catalog is about 6,000,000 bytes.
I've created this page using separate tables for each picture so that you don't have to wait for everything to load in order to start looking. The picture captions will display first and then the pictures (usually starting at the top, but not always due to the way your computer interprets the web).
BUT HERE'S THE BOTTOM LINE. I don't feel you can really know about a product unless the pictures are big and clear enough for you to really see (almost touch). Then you'll know what you're getting. So in my print catalogs the pictures can be sharper, but on the web I can show you a lot more angles, sides and parts of each product. I hope this helps. If I ever forget to show you some part of the product that you want to see, eMail me at DrewKaplan@DAK.com and I'll do my best to add it to the page quickly.
